This is a virtual presentation by Utah Tech University as part of the National Science Foundation’s Enabling Partnerships to Increase Innovation Capacity (EPIIC) Symbiotic Collaboration of Regional Ecosystems (SCORES) cohort. NSF’s EPIIC program broadens participation in innovation ecosystems that advance key technologies (e.g., advanced manufacturing, advanced wireless, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, quantum information science, semiconductors, novel materials, and microelectronics) by supporting capacity-building efforts at institutions of higher education (IHEs) interested in growing external partnerships.

 

ABOUT: This 1-hour virtual presentation will dive into the world of patents, where participants will learn how to establish  top-notch patent programs at PUI’s. Join Utah Tech University for insightful discussions, practical tips, and expert advice on navigating the patent landscape. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned professional, this event is perfect for anyone looking to enhance their understanding of patents.

This event will be led by Dr. Wayne ”Doc” Provost of Utah Tech University (UT). Doc Provost is UT’s Founding Director of the Innovation Guidance and Solutions Center. Since he joined the university in 2016, Dr. Provost has helped students, staff, faculty, and community members obtain over 200 patents, two dozen copyrights, and 134 trademarks. Moreover, he has worked on the insulin pump and the portable dialysis machine and received a patent for the resealable cereal box top. 

 

The SCORES cohort: The SCORES cohort comprises five institutions: Cal Poly Humboldt, Saint Francis, Saint Mary’s, Seattle University, and Utah Tech. SCORES employs a community-based approach to develop best practices for various aspects of innovation and partnerships, including workforce development, experiential learning, research and innovation, industry partnerships, investors, entrepreneurship, and regulatory issues.
