Sponsored Programs Foundation Update

May 4, 2018

Dear HSU Colleagues,

I am writing today to share the news that Steve Karp will be leaving Humboldt State University to pursue an opportunity as the new Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs at Sonoma State University. Steve begins his work at Sonoma in early July.

Steve joined the HSU Sponsored Programs Foundation (SPF) in 2011 and has been instrumental in growing the research foundation such that it is now seen as a successful model for the CSU. Steve’s focus on building a strong customer service organization enabled HSU to increase the number of submitted proposals to a wide range of research, scholarly and creative opportunities. Throughout his time at HSU, Steve has been a champion of faculty and student scholarship and funded research. His leadership at SPF has impacted numerous faculty and countless students over the past seven years and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.

In light of this transition, I am pleased to announce that Kacie Flynn has agreed to serve as the interim Executive Director of the Sponsored Programs Foundation. Kacie will begin her appointment on July 01, 2018.

Kacie joined SPF in 2010 has served in a number of roles, most recently as the Manager of SPF. An HSU alumna, Kacie has earned the designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA) from the Research Administrators Certification Council, and is currently pursuing her Masters of Science in Research Administration from Johns Hopkins University.

In her interim role, Kacie will take on the existing responsibilities of the Executive Director, overseeing the auxiliary operations and staff. In addition, she will serve as HSU' s representative with the Chief Campus Research Officers (CCRO), the Agriculture Research Institute (ARI), along with chairing the Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity (RSCA) annual competition.

I am confident that Kacie’s experience and knowledge will ensure continued success at SPF.
