Position Description

Faculty Director, Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program

California State University, Office of the Chancellor
Long Beach, California

The Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP) provides programmatic and financial
support for promising doctoral students who aspire to teach the CSU’s diverse student
population. Supports include faculty mentorship, professional development, networking
opportunities, small grants, and a forgivable loan. The graduate student fellows who are part of
CDIP are diverse: 60% are from historically underrepresented minority groups and 70% identify
as women. CDIP’s mission is to help fellows cultivate strong connections with CSU faculty
(through the mentorship relationship and monthly programs) and gain familiarity with the
institutional culture of the CSU system—all in the hopes of amplifying their chance to secure a
tenure-track position at one of the 23 CSU campuses. For more information on the CDIP, see
www.calstate.edu/cdip.

Duties of the Director
The Director is responsible for developing and implementing the vision of the program:
preparing doctoral students who aim to teach at the CSU after graduation. The duties of the
Director involve developing recruitment strategies (particularly for fields in need of
diversification); overseeing the annual selection process for new CDIP fellows; recruiting faculty
to serve on the CDIP selection committee; organizing and executing monthly programs;
brokering relationships between CDIP fellows and CSU faculty mentors; cultivating a
community of scholars for CDIP fellows; preparing CDIP fellows for the academic job market;
and assessing the efficacy of the program through data-driven program evaluation. The Director
is also responsible for the ensuring that the operations and practices of CDIP are consistent with
the program’s mission.
