New Director for The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)
Dear HSU Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Enoch Hale will join HSU as the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). Dr. Hale’s appointment will begin on June 29, 2018.
Dr. Hale currently serves as the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence at Virginia Commonwealth University. For the past thirteen years, Dr. Hale has been active in faculty development, enrichment, and is an active contributor to the scholarly discourse on faculty development and scholarly teaching in higher education.
In collaboration with faculty and administrators, Dr. Hale has facilitated over 300 national and international professional development workshops and seminars. The majority of Dr. Hale’s work focuses on embedding higher-order thinking skills and attitudes into curriculum, instruction, and classroom culture. Dr. Hale regularly presents his work at professional conferences, publishes in field related journals, reviews manuscripts for various professional journals, and currently serves as an Editorial Board member for IDEA Papers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving student learning in higher education through analytics, resources, and advice.
Dr. Hale holds a BA in History with an emphasis in social and intellectual history from UC Davis and a MA in Liberal Arts and Science from San Diego State University. He earned a California Single Subject Social Science teaching credential from Chapman University before completing his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in critical thinking, teaching and learning at Union Institute and University in Cincinnati Ohio.
Dr. Hale shares that he is excited for the opportunity to embrace the values, mission and adventurous spirit of HSU and it will be his honor to call California’s beautiful and friendly North Coast, home.
Please join me in welcoming Enoch to HSU, and the Humboldt community.
Finally, I would be remiss not to take this opportunity to provide a heart-felt thank-you to Dr. Julie Alderson for being instrumental in leading the launch of the new CTL. The CTL represents a pivotal point in time for HSU – leveraging organizational change and building capacity around educational development. Creation of the CTL was only possible through the cultivation of numerous partnerships that collectively inspire and innovate teaching excellence in support of our students’ learning. Dr. Alderson’s commitment to supporting and growing the Center in its inaugural year has paved the way for our new Director.
Sincerely,
Alex Enyedi
Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs
