National HSI Week and Latinx Heritage Month
The Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) is designated to demonstrate Humboldt’s commitment to focus on student success for all students including Latinx and/or low income students. HSIs Week is observed by colleges and universities across the nation and at Humboldt State. This week recognizes the 569 HSIs throughout the nation for their work and critical role in educating and empowering Latinx youth.
As an HSI, Humboldt State offers resources through the university like clubs, academic recommended courses, and even off-campus organizations to help our students thrive and feel at home. This year, HSIs Week will take place September 13-19, coinciding with Latinx Heritage Month.
Latinx Heritage Month will launch on Sep 15, 2021 at 6 p.m. For a full calendar of events, visit hsu.link/LatinxMonth21.
A Social Media campaign, virtual event and campus activities will be hosted to heighten awareness of the important role HSIs play in improving access to education and advancing equity for traditionally underserved students.

La Comida nos une- This project will strengthen ongoing campus efforts to engage Latinx students with local community partners to address pressing local rural food system issues. This will deepen connections between faculty, students and place, while greatly enhancing HSU’s ability to foster successful careers in food, agriculture and the critique of today’s complex food systems.
Camino al Rancho & Echale Ganas USDA grant funded programs to address inequitable representation of Latinx students in STEM fields.
