Join us! Scholar of the Year Award - John Meyer
John Meyer will present his lecture commemorating his Distinguished Faculty Award for Scholar of the Year on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 5:00pm in Goodwin Forum (Nelson Hall East 102). A small reception will follow.
Lecture Title: Which way (if any) toward sustainability?
Synopsis: The climate crisis often feels very new, but is in some ways, as Kyle Powys Whyte has argued, “unprecedentedly old.” It has prompted many calls for a more sustainable society. But what could that mean and how might it be pursued? Does it require more deference to experts? Or more power to “the people?” In this talk, Meyer will argue that questions like these are inescapably political and that answers reflect differences in underlying values and visions of a good life.
Free and open to students, faculty, staff and members of the local community. Light refreshments provided.
This is the second of five Distinguished Faculty Lectures that will take place in Spring 2024 semester. See poster for details of future lectures
