EMSS Division Communication - October 9th, 2026
Greetings, EMSS colleagues! It has been a very busy October so far, and the bustle continues!
Due to recent student concerns, Chelsey Castiglione from Student Health & Wellbeing Services will be hosting an in-person Student Town Hall for all students on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 6-7:30 p.m. at Siemens Hall. At the town hall, University leadership from the president’s office, Housing, Title IX & DHR Prevention office, Dean of Students office, and the Sexual Assault Prevention Committee invite students to ask questions and voice concerns related to sexualized violence on our campus.
Many thanks to Chelsey, the Dean of Students Office, and to all of our campus colleagues who have been responding to student, parent and community concerns around sexual violence on campus.
3 Enrollment Partner Visit 10/27-10/28
3 Enrollment is the supplier we work with to recruit prospective students. While the emphasis is on getting Cal Poly Humboldt in front of high school students as they begin to think about college, 3 Enrollment also takes a holistic approach to the prospective student experience. They will be coming to campus on Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28 to learn more about what it’s like to be here, as well as the processes involved in applying to and becoming enrolled at Cal Poly Humboldt.
3 Enrollment will be meeting with folks from various departments in our division and across campus. You or your staff, including some student assistants, may be asked to participate in focus groups. No special preparation needed! If you are particularly interested in participating, or volunteering members of your team, please email Melanie Bettenhausen mmm77@humboldt no later than October 13. Space is limited.
New Hires
Welcome to Louie Lara, our new TRIO Success Coach. He will be working with EOP/SSS students and is housed in the Learning Center.
I am also pleased to announce the permanent appointment of Jaguar Smith (she/her) as Coordinator of the Umoja Center for Pan African Student Excellence, part of our Centers for Inclusive Academic & Career Excellence. Jaguar is a Cal Poly Humboldt alumna, Humboldt County local, and former Umoja student assistant. Her journey with the center has now come full circle, and she brings firsthand experience of the impact that community, mentorship, and culturally affirming support can have on student success. Welcome, Jaguar!
