Dr. Elise Boxer to Speak Nov 18th on the Indian Child Welfare Act

November 7, 2013

The College of Professional Studies, Child Development Department and our partners the Indian Tribal Education and Personnel Program (ITEPP), the Department of Politics and First 5 Humboldt, I would like to invite you and your students to an exciting event!

Dr. Elise Boxer from the University of Utah is an historian and professor of ethnic studies. She will be coming to campus on Monday, Nov. 18 to present discuss the Indian Child Welfare Act, its historical background and directions for the future. This presentation concept grew from Dr. Kishan Lara-Cooper's work with her American Indian Education courses and my work with our CD 479: Policy Analysis and Advocacy course. Our desire is to place current child policy within an historical context, as well as to honor the changes in child policy over the last 100 years. This seemed especially appropriate given HSU's centennial celebration! Please share the attached flyer.

Join us on Monday, Nov. 18 in BSS 162, Native Forum from 6:30 to 8:30 for a student poster reception, Dr. Boxer's presentation, and discussion on child policy.
