CSU Teaching Climate Change & Resilience

Faculty Learning Community

The CSU Teaching Climate Change & Resilience (TCCR) Faculty Learning Community (FLC) was developed by Dr. Mark Stemen, Professor of Geography and Planning at CSU, Chico, and was offered for the first time in Spring 2022. More information can be found in the TCCR resource page, hosted on Chico State’s Faculty Development Website. We had seven Humboldt faculty members participate in the 2022 FLC.

Since then, the FLC has been featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education and has received the Campus Sustainability Achievement Award by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), and most recently received recognition from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities

There will be 20 CSU campuses participating this year.

In this FLC, participants are invited to think about teaching and learning with a focus on climate change and resilience. Our goal is to support teaching across the disciplines by creating a workshop that does not require you to leave your existing subject matter. We will come to you with class materials that are well researched, relevant, and relatable!  Our conversations will be driven by the questions that emerge from participants’ existing classes. What is keeping you from discussing climate change more in your classes, and how can we solve it together?

 FLC Outcomes

  • Help faculty integrate climate change and resilience into a current course in a meaningful and just way

  • Provide faculty with class materials that are well researched, relevant, and relatable to their discipline, and a specific course

  • Provide faculty with the tools and resources to engage the emotions that young people experience when talking about climate change

  • Create a community of scholars who can continue to support each other after the FLC concludes
