The purpose of the COAST Grant Development Program (GDP) is to stimulate CSU faculty members and research associates to develop and submit full proposals to external funding agencies and organizations for ocean and coastal research and educational projects with the ultimate goals of increasing 1) the total amount of extramural funding for ocean and coastal related research and education and 2) the number of externally funded ocean and coastal related principal investigators (PIs) throughout the CSU.

2023-24 Short Course, Workshop and Symposium Funding Program
Maximum Award: $10,000
Deadline: Proposals are accepted on a continual basis until April 30, 2024, or until all funds are awarded.
The SC/WKSHP/SYM Funding Program provides support for the development and hosting of short courses, workshops or symposiums on any topic that falls within or is related to the scope of COAST. Events must be held between August 1, 2023, and November 30, 2024, and within six (6) months of award notification.

2023-24 Seminar Speaker Series Program
Maximum Award: Up to $1,500 for travel to or from Cal Poly Humboldt can be requested for reimbursable travel expenses
Deadline: Applications will be accepted on a continual basis through April 30, 2024, or until all funding is expended, whichever occurs first.
The Seminar Speaker Series Program provides funding to departments to host seminar speakers from other CSU campuses that they would not otherwise be able to invite. Applicants will be notified of the status of their application within two weeks of submission.

2023-24 Rapid Response Funding Program
Maximum Award: $7,500
Deadline: May 31, 2024
The Rapid Response Funding Program provides funding for projects that require a quick response outside of the existing annual COAST funding programs. Funds must be used to support activities associated with unexpected or sudden events, including unanticipated management or policy decisions or actions. Examples of potential projects include (but are not limited to) responses to hazardous material releases (e.g., oil spills), mass stranding events, pathogen outbreaks, natural disasters, unanticipated policy/management decisions, and sudden discoveries. Funds may not be used to support activities related to predictable, recurring events that occur on an annual or seasonal basis with relative regularity (e.g., annual migration, seasonal spawning) or that are anticipated as part of a long-term planning process.
