Black Excellence Speaker Series: Keynote and Workshop with Dr. Chela Chomicki – Sept. 16 & 17
Dear Faculty and Staff,
In collaboration with the Umoja Center, the Department of Child Development & Family Relationships, Human Resources, and Enrollment Management & Student Success, The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is excited to host Dr. Chela Chomicki as the first of three distinguished speakers in the Black Excellence Speakers series. Each speaker will present a keynote address and lead a professional development workshop.
Dr. Chela will deliver the keynote address, "Rediscovering Identity and Resilience: How Cultural Immersive Travel Reignites Joy and Purpose," on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 3:00–4:15 p.m. in the Great Hall. This keynote explores how deep cultural immersion transforms personal growth. This keynote reveals how engaging with different cultures reconnects us with our identities, builds resilience, increases empathy, and reignites joy and purpose. Through compelling stories and actionable insights, attendees will learn to use travel as a tool for self-discovery and well-being. Participants will leave with practical strategies to navigate challenges, gain fresh perspectives, and create a more meaningful life through intentional cultural experiences.
Additionally, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 9:00–10:00 a.m. in the Library Fishbowl, Dr. Chela will lead a DEI-focused professional development workshop titled "Articulating Anti-Racism: Cultivating Joy & Purpose through Cultural Immersive Experiences." This workshop complements our ongoing work on the Institutional Anti-Racism Action Plan and supports the goals of the Black Student Excellence initiative. Staff and faculty who attend will earn CSU Learn credit. Register here!
