Assist with "I've Been Admitted to College" Event for Local 8th Graders

August 26, 2019

Hello Campus Community!

Might you be interested in giving an hour of your time this fall or early spring to assist with a special event for our local 8th graders?

A partnership between the Humboldt County Office of Education, local schools, and HSU, “I’ve Been Admitted to College” (IBAC) is a series of events where 1,600 8th graders from Humboldt, Del Norte, and Mendocino counties are introduced to college through a visit to our campus. These events, scheduled on 9/27, 10/4, 10/18, 11/15, 11/22, 12/6, 1/31, and 2/7, help HSU connect with local students, build a college-going culture in our community, and highlight HSU as a school of choice.

Join the fun! We are looking for six staff and/or faculty members from across departments to assist with the lunch portion of each event from 12:20 p.m. to 1:20 pm. Participants will interact with local 8th graders and school leaders, assist with food distribution, and help supervise a photo booth experience. Special thanks to Michelle Collins, Mira Friedman, Lauren Lynch, Casey Park, Jen Rees, and Brandilynn Villarreal who assisted during the lunch portion of multiple IBAC events last year.
