9/15/2023 EMSS Division Communication

September 14, 2023

EMSS Team Members:

I hope you all had a wonderful week and have plans for a relaxing – or exciting, depending on your preference – weekend.  I enjoyed spending time with many of you at the Division Welcome last week, and today I wanted to share with you some highlights from our division.

Division Connections

Thank you to all who were able to attend yesterday’s ½ Pi(e) Day social event – it was wonderful to have the chance to connect with everyone for just a few minutes, in the midst of all the demands of the workday. If you couldn’t join us, know that each month we will be sending out an invite to a casual, come-if-you-can event celebrating something special (and quite possibly goofy) about that month. I look forward to having the chance to interact with all of you more, as schedules allow. We will try to schedule them on different days of the week and times to make it likely that a good number of us are able to attend throughout the year.

New Dining Options on Campus

Have you noticed the improvements to our various dining locations around campus? If not, some items of note:

  • Dining now has kiosks for ordering at Library Café, Kinetic Koffee, College Creek Marketplace and Humboldt Street Subs in addition to the Boost mobile ordering app (on Google and Apple Stores)
  • $7.99 value meals are now available at the College Creek Marketplace Urban Revolution counter
  •  Check out the new Grab Goodness station in the Depot for grab and go pre-packaged light meals
  •  Hey Juans is now offering breakfast burritos in the Depot
  •  Vedge Craft in the Depot is now offering smoothies. Try the Banana Slug, Redwood Sunrise and Green Goddess options, or try the build-your-own smoothie option. More smoothie supplements and enhancements are coming soon!
  •  The Giant’s Cupboard convenience store in the JGC 1st floor Recreation Room is open daily 5pm to 12am for all your quick snacks, sundries and frozen meals. This is a great option for students on the North side of campus
  • Be sure to check out all the new affordable starter meal plans for staff and faculty starting at only $50 at: https://dineoncampus.com/calpolyhumboldt/purchase-a-meal-plan

More enhancements to come, with plans underway for a frictionless store at the new Craftsman Mall complex and our team investigating potential robot dining delivery services on campus.

Slate CRM Update

The Slate rebuild continues, with the exciting launch of the senior search and inquiry campaigns for fall earlier this week. The Reimplementation Project Page, developed by project manager Billie Herman, provides information about the purpose, goals and vision of the project, the most recent project updates, and a log of the high-level decisions made in the course of the project implementation. In addition, we added a Parking Lot feature, where campus stakeholders can submit questions about the project, or share items that need to be captured as a later part of the Slate build out.

New Additions

We are excited to welcome these newest members of the EMSS team:

Residence Life Coordinators: Matilda Bunchongchitr & Shaun Gilmore

Student Activities Center Office Coordinator: My Sou

Dean of Students ASC: Noel DiBenedetto

Accolades

Many thanks to all of the team members who provided coverage for key admissions and recruitment fairs during peak times, allowing our newest Admissions team members to undertake onboarding without Cal Poly Humboldt missing key events in our target markets. Special gratitude goes out to our guest recruiters Mitch Mitchell (Dean of Students Office), Rebecca Robertson (Academic Affairs), Cheyenne Hoffman (Registrar’s Office), Steve St. Onge (Student Engagement & Enterprise Services), Jaime Tripp-Carter (Housing Operations), Donyet King (Residence Life), Harelle Deshazier (Umoja Center), and alums Richard Lyans, Jenna Hanson and Jon Lyans. Special thanks also to Stacie Lyans in Advancement and Stephanie Lane of the Forever Humboldt Alumni program for their assistance in identifying guest alum recruiters. This coverage effort would not have been possible without the extra work of Chelsea Mooney, who helped coordinate all of the fair registration info and provided a mini training for the guest recruiters, and Sulaina Banks, who assisted in provisioning all guest recruiters with their recruiting supplies. Special travel scheduling assistance was provided by Jess Etter and Lynda Henderson. This effort is an excellent example of the amazing results that can occur when we all come together to support a division priority, and I am more grateful than you will ever know.

Events

If you are able, support one (or more) of these great events being planned or hosted by members of the EMSS team:

  • Green & Gold Days are back! Wear your green and gold every Thursday and celebrate the return of a Humboldt tradition.
  • The Campus Store Arcata ribbon cutting with Arcata Chamber, Arcata Mainstreet and campus leadership on Thursday, September 21 at 4:30pm
  • Check out The Campus Store Eureka when you are at the Friday Night Market. Located at 218 F Street in the Ritz Building a block from the Gazebo.  Fun local gifts, Humboldt themed items, and of course great Cal Poly Humboldt clothing
  • CenterArts upcoming shows: Mariachi Herencia de Mexico Thursday, September 21 at 7pm JVD,  Thundercat! In Yo Girl's City Tour Friday, September 29 at 9pm JVD, Olga Kern Sunday, October 1 at 7pm Fulkerson Recital Hall, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway Saturday, October 7 at 8pm JVD

As always, if you have items for inclusion in this division communication, share them with me at ceh118@humboldt.edu or with the EMSS Leadership Team member in your area.

Take care of yourselves and each other,

Chrissy Holliday
