9/13/2024 EMSS Division Communication
EMSS Team Members:
Happy Friday the 13th, EMSS team members – for all who are a bit superstitious about this day, let’s hope there's nothing unlucky about it, and that it is actually a wonderful start to a weekend! Don’t forget that we celebrate College Colors Day this afternoon, so stop by the Redwood Bowl at noon to hear from President Spagna, then join in the fun on the Upper Playing Field and cheer on the EMSS kickball team in the tournament! But before we meet out there, I want to take a few minutes to share some information with you about our division and all the great work that is underway.
Path to Healing
It was great seeing so many of you at our Division Welcome last week, and I know many of you enjoyed the opportunity to hear from our new president and interact with him during lunch. I also want to thank all of you for participating in the group conversation and sharing, despite the discomfort, as we discussed the path to healing for our campus and division. I am hopeful that you saw the beginning of some of the concerns you shared being addressed in Wednesday’s email message from the president, setting forth plans for stakeholder meetings in which leadership listens to our community, but also shares lessons learned from the After Action Review and continues our work towards campus healing. Additional information will be shared in the coming days and weeks, and I am committed to remaining engaged alongside you all with this, and accountable for the needs you have shared. Thank you for your care for our students and each other, and for the passion that I know drives this division towards greatness.
SEM Plan Update
I wanted to draw your attention to this Sept. 3 message updating campus regarding the Strategic Enrollment Management Plan. Significant work has been accomplished, and a process will begin soon for ensuring it will remain aligned with key CSU initiatives and Cal Poly Humboldt enrollment planning. Please take some time to review the progress report and ensure that all work within EMSS is aligning with the SEM plan in some way – as we often discuss, everything we do relates in some manner to either new student enrollment or current student retention. If you have ideas about additional information that should be included in the next plan revision, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
TPM Lunch & Learn
If you were not able to attend the Professional Development Day session about the CSU’s new Time, Place, Manner (TPM) policy, register now for a Lunch & Learn next Thursday, Sept. 19. Myself and Vice President Sherie Gordon will present important information about TPM and also hold a Q&A session. Registration is required, so reserve your spot – and lunch – today, if you plan to attend!
Accolades
A huge thank you to the Facilities Management and MarCom teams for helping us get the new Lumberjack Lounge and Arcade open to students for Fall 2024. If you haven't already, please stop by the SAC to see these two great new spaces. A grand opening celebration will occur later this fall.
