6/21/2024 EMSS Division Communication

June 21, 2024

EMSS Team Members:

Good morning, and happy Friday! This will be the last EMSS Division Communication of this cycle, and they will pick back up after school begins in August. I hope this communication every two weeks has helped you feel a bit more “in the know” and connected to campus and each other. If you have ideas for improvements to the communication in the coming year, please email those to me!

Enrollment Target Progress

Strong progress towards fall’s enrollment goals continues, and the most recent Enrollment Target Progress report shares some of those details. We continued to see solid application and deposit activity through our June 15 deadlines and are now measuring not only application and deposit activity, but enrollment for every student type. Registration began earlier this week for first-time undergraduate (FTUG) students, and now all new and continuing students are able to take steps towards their enrollment.  The summer is a volatile time for our enrollment efforts, and we are doing everything possible to assure limited summer melt and continued engagement with our fall enrollees, to minimize the risk they do not show up on campus this fall.

While we continue to watch the numbers carefully, we are currently on pace to meet the continuing student re-enrollment goal for fall (3,900), though we will need to come in on the higher end of our average enrollment patterns in the coming months to do so. I ask that you do anything you can do to support the retention and re-enrollment of any continuing student you interact with – ask whether they have re-enrolled, learn more about why they have not if the answer is no, and connect them directly with someone who can help navigate any concern they may have.

We are currently on track to meet the budget headcount target of 6,131, which would be a third straight fall of growth, and would put us close to 3% growth again. FTUG enrollment is higher than last year to date, and that population has also deposited at higher rates than in 2019, which is a good indicator of success. Significant, ongoing interventions are underway to combat melt, encourage continued deposit and enrollment activity, and clear out admits who indicate they are no longer interested, so the enrollment reality for fall continues to come clear for us in the coming weeks.

Humboldt Summer Dining

The J is open most weekdays from June 17-July 27 depending on conference groups. Then it will be open August 5 for the rest of the 24-25 academic year.
