5/8/2026 EMSS Division Communication

May 8, 2026

EMSS Team Members:

Happy Friday, everyone! We are in the home stretch now, with next week being one of the busiest weeks of the spring semester, starting with Late Night Breakfast Monday, followed by graduation celebrations Thursday and Friday, and rolling into Commencement on Saturday.

As your schedule allows, I invite you to learn more about happenings across our division and the campus:

Last Chance to Volunteer for Commencement

Time is running out to volunteer for commencement. Earlier this week, we let campus know that we were still 30 volunteers short of what we need to ensure a safe, smooth, and celebratory experience for our graduates and their guests. That includes behind-the-scenes roles such as:

  • Greeting guests

  • Ushering

  • Shuttle and wheelchair escort support

  • Parking and traffic assistance

  • Supporting graduate and faculty/staff lineup areas

Full-day and half-day shifts are available. If you can help, please coordinate with your supervisor and submit the Commencement work interest and availability form by the end of the day TODAY. I hope to see you there!

Interim VP Announcement and Related Roles

I am sure that everyone saw the announcement from President Carvajal that Peggy Metzger has been chosen to serve as Interim VP for Enrollment Management & Student Success as I transition to my new position in Arizona. She has already started her division-wide duties, working alongside me to provide a seamless transition until my departure in late June, and will serve until a new VP is fully onboarded into the position.

Peggy is a trusted member of our leadership team, and I am proud that she has been granted the opportunity to support EMSS in this manner. Her extensive experience and understanding of our campus will benefit all of us, as the division focuses on sustaining the amazing momentum that is already underway. Her interim role means a need for some backfill support throughout the division. I am also pleased to announce that Jenni Robinson Reisinger has agreed to take on the role of Interim AVP of Enrollment Management and University Registrar, while Miriam Miner has agreed to serve as Interim Director of Financial Aid.

Please join me in congratulating Peggy, Jenni and Miriam on these well-deserved appointments. While leaving Humboldt is proving to be a difficult decision for me, I know this team will support and advocate for each of you, which gives me a significant level of peace in this transition. Other backfill appointments and temporary duties may be assigned and communicated in the coming weeks.
