2/2/2024 EMSS Division Communication

February 2, 2024

EMSS Team Members:

Happy Friday, and congratulations on making it to the end of another successful week supporting the enrollment and success of our current and future students – as well as welcoming in February. It feels like 2024 is already speeding away! As your time allows, please take a few moments to read some of the current highlights from our division below:

Recap: Division Welcome

It was great to see so many of you, both in person and virtually, for last week’s EMSS Spring Welcome. For those who were unable to attend, or who missed the first part of the session due to some of the Zoom connectivity issues, be sure to check out the presentations from the event: as we gathered, slides focusing on personal news played; my presentation is available for review; and the departmental achievements played throughout lunch. If you would like to add your signature of support to our wall-sized purpose, vision and values, please stop by the Enrollment Management office in SBS 295 to sign today! We have also provided small format printable copies for those departments that wish to post in their areas.

Add/Drop/Withdraw

Reminder: the spring 2024 add/drop/withdrawal deadline was Monday 1/29 at 11:59pm. After this date, students can only add/drop with petitions and necessary approvals. Resources: Petition to Add Courses After the Established Deadline (uses Adobe Sign), Withdrawal process overview. Questions? Contact records@humboldt.edu or 707-826-4101 for help.

Budget Planning

I know that everyone received the campus message earlier this week regarding budget planning and reduction scenarios, which I mentioned as an expected planning step during our Welcome event. Please know that our division leadership has been engaging around this type of planning – both the critical need for strategic investments in some areas and the need for reductions in recognition of the projected campus budget realities – for some time. I am confident that we will find solutions that allow us to keep the momentum already underway towards achieving our goals in support of the campus and our students. I ask for your patience and engagement with your unit leadership as we prepare our contributions to the campus process, and I will continue to provide updates as budget planning continues.

Housing Application Opens Soon

The Fall 2024 Housing application opens to explore on February 6 at 11 am, with applications opening Feb. 20-23, with exact date depending on student type. The priority deadline is April 1, so encourage students to complete their application as soon as they can. It is important to note that we anticipate being able to provide campus housing to all students who want to live in one of our housing options. Room assignments will begin rolling out in late May; for more details, visit our Housing Dates & Deadlines page.

New Additions, Position Changes & Searches

January has been a good month for members of our team, and we want to take a moment to celebrate a new hire, a promotion, and a joyful return to work within EMSS. Please join us in welcoming our new Events Specialist, Sarah Mundi, who started working within the office of Admissions on Jan. 22. We are also celebrating the recent promotion of Miriam Miner to Interim Associate Director of Financial Aid, effective Jan. 1. After a successful 11-month battle against cancer, Yashvin Madhak will be returning to his role as the Assistant Director for Residence Life – we are excited to have him back with us, and so grateful for his restored health.

Upcoming Events
