"Imperiled MeKong River Ecosystem: Where Grizzly Bears Jump Waterfalls."
Monday, Feb 23 at 5 pm in Science B 135
Description - Over 130 dams are being planned for the Mekong River ecosystem. One imminent hydropower dam, the Don Sahong Project near the Laotian/Cambodian border, would be constructed on the only viable channel allowing migrating fish access into the upper watershed. Photographs, many from vacationers posting their photos on the internet, were used to quantify how channel hydraulics affect fish passage and demonstrate how/whether engineering guidelines could mitigate impacts from future hydropower projects.
