12/8/2023 EMSS Division Communication

December 8, 2023

EMSS Team Members:

Happy Friday! We are solidly in the midst of the final days of the semester, with all of the activity and excitement that brings. Thank you to all who were able to participate in Wednesday’s division holiday gathering and potluck event, complete with entertaining holiday sweaters. I was impressed with the creativity of so many who made or enhanced their sweaters with everything from garland and ornaments to working lights! We will continue to hold small events like this throughout the year, setting aside time to get to know each other better, share a few laughs, and reconnect with colleagues.

As your time allows, please take a few moments to read some of the current highlights from our division below:

Slate CRM Update

Throughout the semester, I have shared updates about our progress with the reimplementation of our Slate CRM system. The past month saw significant progress in that work, and I am grateful to all who have put in the extra hours and effort to make this possible.

First, we are actively communicating with more than 400,000 potential future students at different stages of the enrollment funnel via strategic email campaigns within Slate. We continue to expand those campaigns, particularly for admitted students, to include additional touchpoints specific to students’ selected majors, as well as campus resources, student life, and hallmarks of life as a Lumberjack.

Applications are actively being loaded into Slate, and we continued to refine the processes that allow the applications to load from the Cal State Apply software into both Slate and PeopleSoft. During this time, it is important to note that the timing of imports may cause variations in the daily comparison data for applications and admits, as we resolve issues related to timing and communication between the multiple systems.

From the student-facing perspective, all Fall 2024 and forward applicants have access to a new Applicant Status Page hosted in Slate, accessible from myHumboldt, that serves as the sole source of online interaction with applicants. We transitioned away from applicant interactions with Checklists in the Student Center to this Applicant Status Page in Slate for all Fall 2024 applicants. The status page comes with enhanced function and experience for prospective students, including unique touches like confetti on the screen when they open an admit decision.

Please note that the current time is one of transition, as Spring 2024 applicants are still utilizing the Student Center process, which will be phased out once spring classes are underway. Currently, myHumboldt can recognize Spring and Fall 2024 applicants as two distinct populations and display current applicant related content to Spring 2024 applicants, while displaying different content to Fall 2024 applicants that directs them to the Applicant Status Page.

More than 5,000 applicants have been admitted for next fall, and using the new status page functionality, students are already actively accepting their admission and submitting enrollment deposits. The $50 orientation fee previously collected later in the enrollment process is now being collected at the point of confirmation as the enrollment deposit and will be used in the spring as one strong indicator of expected enrollment. An enrollment deposit waiver process has also been developed to ensure access for students who may be unable to pay the deposit at this time.

Remember that timely updates regarding the Slate project can be found online here.

Professional Development Funds

As announced Nov. 30, the EMSS division has made funding available to support professional development for our team. The EMSS professional development committee has been allocated $15,000 to support professional development opportunities on and off campus for the EMSS Professional Staff for this fiscal year. This amount is limited, so the committee opened an application for individuals to apply for this funding. The application will stay open until the funding has all been awarded, so please apply soon.

Expectations of funding:

  • · We will be scoring all applications against THIS RUBRIC
  • · While there is no limit on how much can be applied for, we will give preference to those exploring cost-saving efforts
    • o ex, a group traveling by car or selecting a conference in CA or OR.
  • · The committee may only be able to fund a request partially, dependent on the number of requests
  • · There is no guarantee that the professional development opportunity will be allocated
  • · The professional development has to occur in the confines of this fiscal year (AKA, complete before July 1, 2024)

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Molly Kresl, mjk360@humboldt.edu , or Ravin Craig, rdc23@humboldt.edu. On behalf of the EMSS professional development committee, we are excited to see what opportunities you all share!
