11/9/2023 EMSS Division Communication

November 9, 2023

EMSS Team Members:

Happy Thursday – I am sending this division message a day earlier than normal, as campus will be closed tomorrow in honor of Veterans Day. I hope you enjoy the long weekend, but I also urge you all to take a moment to reflect on the importance of this holiday, the sacrifices made by our veterans through the years, and perhaps thank a special veteran in your life.

Please take a few minutes to read more below about other important work taking place in our division.

Volunteer for Late Night Breakfast

Please join me and other members of the campus community in volunteering at the Late Night Breakfast on Monday, December 11th, as we support our students during finals. By the end of the semester, we can all use a little bit of fun and relaxation, and we know these events make a significant difference in how our students feel about the end of the semester – so let’s help them finish strong! Details and sign-up link here; please register by Nov. 27 so assignments can be completed.

Spring Registration Drive

Please help spread the word to your colleagues and every student you know about the Spring Registration Drive in the Depot. Drop-in help will be available from Advisors with the Academic Advising Center, Educational Opportunity Program, Cultural Centers for Academic Excellence, Retention through Academic Mentoring, and representatives from the Place-Based Learning Communities office, Registrar, Health Center, and Student Financial Services. The successful effort started this week and will be available at the Depot today and Nov. 13-14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Special thanks to all involved in this effort to drive enrollment for our continuing students, including a special shout out to our dining services partners.

EMSS Holiday Sweater Party & Potluck

In honor of the return of sweater weather, the EMSS Division will be hosting a Holiday Sweater Party and potluck. Some of you may find joy in making (or buying) an ugly, funny, cute or creative holiday or seasonally-themed sweater to share smiles as we gather together in our creative attire. Please also bring your favorite dish to share, whether it be savory, salty or sweet! Hot Chocolate, coffee and tea will be provided, as will some cookies and decorating supplies - come ready to show off your cookie decorating skills! Be on the lookout for a calendar invite for December 6 at 1 p.m. at the Great Hall. Hope to see you all there.

Accolades

A big thank you to our campus Facilities team who worked so hard to limit the damage from a recent fire and the resulting sprinkler water flow in College Creek apartments. Damage was limited, and housing was able to relocate approximately 14 residents quickly.

Events

If you are able, support one (or more) of these great events involving members of the EMSS team:

Dining event: Join dining's Grateful Event on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the J Dining Hall. This special event is free to all Faculty and Staff.

Take care of yourselves and each other,
