EMSS Team Members:

I hope you are all having a wonderful short week, and I know many of you are already on well-deserved leave. In the spirit of the season, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to all of you for the work you do each and every day, and the spirit with which you do it. I know that I am beyond blessed to be part of this team and work alongside each of you every day. A year ago, my family and I were in the midst of preparing for our move here, a little overwhelmed with holiday celebrations plus packing, and a bit anxious about what the future would hold. This year, I am looking forward to a much more relaxed holiday season, and I find myself truly content with the path that brought us home to Humboldt.

While the work we do is seldom easy, and can often take every bit of energy and endurance we have, who we do that work alongside matters greatly, and I wanted to take this opportunity to make sure you all know how much you are appreciated. As your time allows, please take a few moments to read some of the current highlights from our division below:

Spring Registration

New students for Spring 2024 will begin advising, the online registration tutorial, and registration after fall break. The Canvas course opens for new undergraduates on Monday 11/27.

Student Thanksgiving Meals

Not all students go home over fall break, and those with meal plans can pick up their Thanksgiving Meal on Wednesday, November 22 in the J Dining Hall. Also, Residence Life will be having a free Fall Break dinner in the JGC Rec Room on Thursday, November 23 from 3pm to 6pm. Help us spread the word, if you know a student who is staying on campus this week!

You're Invited: EMSS Holiday Sweater Party

In honor of the return of sweater weather, the EMSS Division will be hosting a Holiday Sweater Party and potluck on December 6. Some of you may find joy in making (or buying) an ugly, funny, cute or creative holiday or seasonally-themed sweater.  Let's gather together in our creative attire. Please bring your favorite dish, whether it be savory, salty or sweet! Hot Chocolate, coffee and tea will be provided, as will some cookies and decorating supplies - come show off your cookie decorating skills! Be sure to respond to the calendar invite for December 6 at 1 p.m. at the Great Hall, and reach out to Jess Etter if you don't see it on your calendar. Hope to see you all there!

Don't Forget: Volunteer for Late Night Breakfast

Please join me and other members of the campus community in volunteering at the Late Night Breakfast on Monday, December 11th, as we support our students during finals. By the end of the semester, we can all use a little bit of fun and relaxation, and we know these events make a significant difference in how our students feel about the end of the semester – so let’s help them finish strong! Accolades

Thanks to Erik Mendes, our Housing ITC, for launching a new gaming console for Xbox Series S and Nintendo Switch in the JGC ground floor Recreation Room. Plenty of games are available for free!  Kudos to Housing's Lynda Henderson for transforming the JGC Recreation Room from a dull, open space to a new, exciting living room for our students with multiple TV screens, games, a resource room, a piano and guitar to play, weekly movie nights and comfy bean bags to relax. Stop by and check it out when you have time.

New Additions & Searches

We are excited to share that Aolany Navas will join the EMSS team on Monday, Dec. 4 as our Interim Director of Admissions. Please join us in welcoming Aolany once she arrives!
