10/25/2024 EMSS Division Communication

October 24, 2024

EMSS Team Members:

Happy Friday, EMSS team, and greetings from Cape Town, South Africa, where I and a few campus colleagues are conducting a site visit for our newest International Service Learning Program (ISLP). We are developing this new ISLP opportunity as part of our Black Student Success Initiative, and we are now working on a program that will provide hands-on experience in a nature-focused service opportunity, combined with increased understanding related to the historical and cultural relevance of the region. We conduct site visits like this one to ensure that we build a program that is safe and educational for our students, while providing a unique hands-on approach, and that includes scouting out partnerships and locations before students ever step foot in the country. I am excited to be part of building this out and adding access to another ISLP for our students, and I look forward to sharing more details in the coming weeks. But, I will also be very happy to get back to campus and be back in the swing of things with all of you.

As your time allows, please read the below updates related to campus and division efforts.

URPC Divisional Updates

Find out what happened with budget reductions after the University Resources & Planning Committee (URPC) made their recommendations to the President last spring. Fall Divisional Updates will take place during URPC’s regular meeting time from 1:00-2:30 pm and are tentatively scheduled as follows: November 1 - Administrative Affairs, President’s Office, University Wide; November 15 - Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management & Student Success; December 6 - Advancement, Athletics. A campus notice will go out prior to each session.

Organized in partnership with the Humboldt County Office of Education, Making College Happen is a series of three events open to 10th graders in Humboldt or Del Norte County.

As always, if you have items for inclusion in this division communication, share them with me via e-mail, or with the EMSS Leadership Team member in your area.
