10/17/2025 EMSS Division Communication
EMSS Team Members:
Happy Friday, EMSS team. I had the pleasure of attending the CSU’s GI 2025 convening this week with other campus and system colleagues, to not only wrap up that system success initiative, but learn more about the new CSU student success framework and strategic plan. I am excited for all that comes next for the CSU and Cal Poly Humboldt, and find myself re-invigorated from gathering with others to truly focus on student success. I also walked away reminded of the good work already underway here and grateful for the can-do attitude of our campus and this division in particular. In recognition of that, I want to share with you a few important updates from our division and the campus at large:
University Budget Planning
The University Resources & Planning Committee (URPC) of the University Senate, in collaboration with the University Budget Office, will hold a Budget Forum for the campus community on Wednesday, October 22, from 12:30 – 2 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum. The purpose of this forum is to introduce campus community members to budgeting concepts, update the campus on the state of the budget (State of California, CSU, and Humboldt), and educate about the role and functions of the URPC. Lunch will be provided. Questions can be submitted in advance using this Google Form: University Resources and Planning Committee (URPC) Budget Forum. Please submit your questions by Monday, October 20, 2025, at 12 p.m.
The URPC will also begin hosting divisional presentations to share the final budget reductions for FY 25-26. Look for the announcements with details, but for now save the following dates and times:

November 7, 2025: 1-2:30 p.m. - Enrollment Management and Student Success, Athletics and Recreation, Academic Affairs
New Hires and Position Changes
We are pleased to welcome Heng Yam as the new coordinator for the Asian Desi Pacific Islander Middle Eastern and North African Center (ADPI-MENA Center).
I am excited to share that Williams Pena is joining us as coordinator for the First Star Program, a college-prep program for high school students who are currently in foster care. We will launch our first group this summer for this program, which is housed with the ELITE Scholars program on campus and funded by grant funding from the state and CSU.
Please join me in welcoming our newest EMSS team members!
Accolades
Excellent job to the organizers and crew that made Lumberjack Weekend happen! It was successful and uniting, with a number of well-attended events. The Block Party brought together alumni, community, student families, and members of the entire campus community for an evening of fun.
Fall Day of Service was fantastic, with 94 volunteers (17 more than last year!) who contributed 282 collective hours to gardening projects at the Potawot Community Food Garden. Shout out to Melea and the YES Team! You can see some really beautiful pictures from the event here.
Cal Poly Humboldt's Immediate Access program for classroom materials has grown this Fall to over 600 students in the program. Students saved almost $60K total, averaging $95 per student with the digital program that provides materials to students 5 days prior to classes starting with automatic delivery when they register for classes.
