10/11/2024 EMSS Division Communication
EMSS Team Members:
Happy Friday, EMSS team. I hope you are all doing well – can you believe midterm has passed? Where has the semester gone? As your time allows, please review below some highlights for our division and campus.
Presidential Search
It was great to see EMSS well-represented at yesterday’s forum for the presidential search – I know making time for a two-hour session can be difficult, but I am glad you took the time to be part of the process. If you were not able to attend, or chose not to speak, you can also submit feedback via this survey. For more information, visit the Presidential Search web page, which contains information about the search committee, process and more.
Enrollment Update
Did you see the campus message last week about fall enrollment? Our enrollment grew again, for the third straight fall semester – definitely something to celebrate! Among our new students, we saw strong growth in our upper-division transfer and local student populations, as well as our Pell-eligible and first-generation students. Before the census numbers were even announced, the application for Fall 2025 had opened – and just like that, we are already well into a new recruiting cycle.
As of yesterday, we have 6,275 in-progress applications (over 5,900 of those are undergraduate applications), and 593 total applications have been completed. Admissions has a number of application completion workshops scheduled between now and the CSU’s Dec. 2 application deadline.
Budget 101
A previous EMSS update provided information about a Budget 101 forum that was a bit preliminary. I am happy to now announce that the University Resources and Planning Committee (URPC) of the University Senate, in collaboration with the University Budget Office, will be holding an Open Forum for the Campus Community on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 11:30 - 1:00 pm in the SAC 131 the Banquet Room. The purpose of this forum is to introduce University budgeting concepts, processes, timelines, and the functions of the URPC. This will be followed by a presentation on the state of the budget at Cal Poly Humboldt. This presentation will cover developments at the State and CSU system level that impact our campus budget, as well as the impact of enrollment changes on our financial outlook. Lunch will be provided.
Questions can be submitted ahead of time at OAAVP@humboldt.edu. Please submit your questions by Monday, October 21, 2024, at 12 pm.
Photography Exhibit
Did you know that our Campus Store Arcata on the Plaza also hosts local artists? The store often highlights regional artwork in rotating displays. Check out the new photography exhibit from local photographer, Jeffrey Schwartz. https://www.jeffreyschwartzphotography.com/
Humboldt Dining Survey
Help us shape the future of campus dining by taking our 2024 Voice to Vision survey! As a thank you for participating... everyone taking the survey will be entered to win $50 Dining Dollars & an $800 Mountain Bike Package! Respondees must include your email to be entered into the contest. Take the survey here at https://swiy.co/Humboldt-Dining-Survey-Fall-2024 Your feedback matters—let’s make dining better together!
Personnel Updates
Our division has seen a flurry of new faces join us in the past few weeks, and I ask you all to join me in making these new members of our team welcome. The Financial Aid Office welcomes new systems analyst, Kit Crane, who started on October 1. The Cultural Centers for Academic Excellence are excited to welcome Sherri Provolt - ITEPP Co-Advisor, and Brenda Perez (starting October 15th) - Coordinator of El Centro. The Office of Student Life welcomes Vanessa Cota to the team as a temporary fill for the ASC position. The Dean of Students office welcomes Michelle Long to the interim CARE Case Manager position.
