U.S. Immigration Policy in the 21st Century: Human Rights, (In)Security, and State Violence

This talk will provide an overview of recent U.S. immigration policy, including analysis of how current federal policies are attempting to limit who is able to enter or stay in the country and the ways that people become U.S. citizens. Dr. Gellman will focus on the most recent decade of U.S. immigration policy in historical context, and includes brief mention of third country deportations, an increasing practice under the Trump administration. Overall, this talk highlights themes across immigration policy, human security, and human rights to better understand what is at stake in this political moment in the U.S.
