2/27/2026 EMSS Division Communication
EMSS Team Members:
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to “almost March” - I cannot believe how quickly the first two months of 2026 have flown! I hope everyone saw yesterday’s message to all faculty and staff about our phenomenal 4.1% enrollment growth for the spring semester. This is an amazing time to be part of all that is happening here at Cal Poly Humboldt, and I am so proud of the work done each day by this division and our partners.
As time allows, I invite you to learn more about happenings across our division and the campus:
University Budget Planning
The University Resources & Planning Committee (URPC) is in the midst of its annual budget planning work - it was great to see many of you at Wednesday’s campus budget forum. From my perspective, it seemed to help provide a solid foundation for understanding our campus budget process, as well as the current status. The next step in the process includes the division budget presentations at the March 6 and March 13 URPC meetings.
I will present the EMSS budget scenario on the afternoon of Friday, March 6, which will include a quick overview of our division, as well as the outcome of our green-yellow-red budget exercise. The meeting runs from 1-2:30 p.m., but individual presentation times are not yet assigned - when those times and the Zoom link to join are shared, I will make sure we send it out to our division.
Accreditation Site Visit Launch
I hope everyone is aware that in April, we will receive a visit from our accrediting body - this is an essential part of our ability to serve students, ensure the quality of our programming, and continue being able to offer Title IV federal financial aid. As we prepare for the WSCUC review team visit, you’re invited to attend the Accreditation Site Visit Launch event Wednesday, March 4, from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room (GSAC 225). Lunch will be provided.
Join us to learn what to expect during the April site visit, why accreditation matters, and key themes from the report and WSCUC Lines of Inquiry. The session will include interactive activities, discussion, and prize drawings. We hope you’ll join us and help build excitement as we prepare to welcome the review team.
Don’t Forget: What Would You Do Campaign and Workshop
As staff and faculty, we encounter challenging moments involving sexual assault and intimate partner violence. The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee (SAPC) gathered the most common concerns and created an interactive training that provides us with practical skills needed to navigate these situations. Help us meet our goal of having at least 50% of academic departments and at least 25% of non-academic departments represented. We encourage each department to elect at least one person to join us on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 from 2 - 4 p.m. in the Great Hall. Please contact Chelsey Castiglione at cmc152@humboldt.edu or (707) 826-5228 for more information.
Be sure to look for posters around campus with QR codes you can scan to provide anonymous answers about how you would approach some of the most common types of situations our teams encounter.
