Manos En La Masa
Interested in learning about La Milpa, the cultural significance of maíz, and food sovereignty within Latinx and Indigenous migrant communities? Join us for Manos En La Masa on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, from 2:50 to 6 p.m. at the Rou Dalagurr Food Sovereignty Lab. There are 7 spots available.
El Centro Academic is collaborating with OhSnap, Rou Dalagurr Food Sovereignty Lab, and Scholars Without Borders to host an interactive workshop centered around Latinx and Indigenous migrant communities. Cal Poly Humboldt students and faculty will learn about La Milpa, the importance of maíz in our diets, and the role of food sovereignty in sustaining community wellbeing. The workshop will include a demonstration on how to cook a high protein meal and make fresh corn tortillas, followed by a shared meal that includes corn tortllas, refried beans, pollo en salsa verde and agua fresca.
To reserve your space, complete the registration form at hum.link/masa.
This is the first of many workshops El Centro will be developing, thanks to a grant funded by SHIFT. These workshops are a food sovereignty initiative rooted in Latinx & Indigenous migrant food traditions.
