Second Listening Session on Draft Revision to Program Discontinuance Procedure – February 23

February 18, 2026

The Academic Policy Committee invites you to participate in our second listening session on the draft revision to the Procedure for Discontinuance of an Academic Program.

Listening Session Details

February 23

11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Location: Goodwin Forum (in person) or via Zoom (Zoom link)

We held our first listening session in December and are grateful to those who participated. The current draft incorporates feedback we received at that session. On February 23, we will begin with a brief summary of changes made in response to that feedback, and then open the floor for additional input and discussion.

We know that conversations about program discontinuance can feel weighty and personal, and we approach this work with that understanding. The committee was not asked to revise this procedure because any program has been identified; rather, we were asked to update a long-standing policy so that the university has a clear, transparent, and collaboratively developed framework in place should it ever be needed.

Our goal is to develop a procedure that reflects shared governance, is fair to all involved parties, and has broad campus buy-in. A framework developed thoughtfully and collectively is far more likely to be trusted and understood across our community.

The draft procedure is available here. We encourage you to review it in advance if possible, though all are welcome to attend and share perspectives.

Your input is essential to ensuring that this policy reflects our campus values and serves Cal Poly Humboldt well.

Thank you for your engagement in this important work.
