Dear Colleagues, 

The Cal Poly Humboldt Campus Store on the Arcata Plaza is pleased to host photographer, author, and 2024 Cal Poly Humboldt Distinguished Alumni recipient Aldaron Laird for a book signing and informal presentation on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 4:00–5:00 p.m. 

Aldaron will be signing copies of his book, A Photographic Exploration of Wigi (currently called Humboldt Bay), and speaking briefly about his long-term effort to document the bay’s shoreline environments. His work reflects sustained observation of tidal movement, shifting waterlines, and the ecological character of Wigi, the Wiyot name for Humboldt Bay and its surrounding shoreline. 

A selection of large-format prints from the book is on display at the Campus Store and available for public viewing through March 2026. Signed copies of the book will be available at the event. 

The Campus Store is open Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., and we welcome faculty, staff, students, and community members to stop in, view the installation, and meet the artist. 

We hope you will join us on January 7 to engage with this unique contribution to the visual history and environmental understanding of Humboldt Bay.
