9/27/2024 EMSS Division Communication
EMSS Team Members:
Happy Friday, all! The mornings are feeling more crisp, and our part of the world feels just a bit more autumnal these days – I always enjoy the excuse for an extra cup of coffee in the morning to keep me warm!
Fall Enrollment
Census was earlier this week, and our Registrar’s team, as well as colleagues in Institutional Research, Analytics & Reporting, are busy finalizing data to share out to our campus community. Expect a campus communication from me next week with all the official numbers – but as I previewed at our Division Welcome, the upward trend has continued, and we will be over 6,000 students for the first time since 2020! Even better news is that it looks as if that growth has come due to both new students (particularly transfer) and retention improvement. I know we are all proud of this continued upward trajectory, and the fact it is manageable growth that allows us to scale our operations and student supports appropriately, as we increase in numbers. More details to come!
Campus Store Changes
I hope you are all enjoying having The Campus Store back on campus – we made this shift in direct response to student needs and requests, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Be sure to check us out on the 3rd floor of the Gutswurrak Student Activities Center (GSAC), and stock up on some of the new spirit wear designs that are in stock!
If you need to order a Cal Poly Humboldt branded shirt, the Campus Store has a custom one-item order service with 20% off the listed price. Request an item at: https://fodcustom.merchorders.com/
We will be closing our Eureka Campus Store after today and bringing unique items from Eureka to our 2 Arcata stores. We remain committed to serving our campus and community with the campus location in GSAC and our Plaza location in downtown Arcata, which is still home to the only certified Apple service center around!
Accolades
Special thanks to all who planned and took part in the California College Guidance Initiative and Counselor Conference. Admissions, TRIO EOP and the K-16 Collaborative held the conference September 10 – 11, with a total of 97 attendees. The majority of attendees came from area school districts, though we also welcomed attendees from educational agencies, the CSU Chancellor’s Office, College of the Redwoods and other community partners.
Personnel Updates
If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet our Admissions recruiting team, know that we have a few new faces that joined us this year (Pablo Lopez, Sammy Perez and Sophie Stringer), in addition to a few returning MVPs (Rickiyah McGrady, Noah Batchman and Sandy Younger). Explore our Meet the Counselors page to learn more about them and the areas they cover. They are already living in their areas and attending fairs, high school visits, and a host of other recruiting events.
