LAST CALL! Support for Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Application
NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program
Application Support Opportunity
Deadline for Support Course: Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 11:59 pm
The Graduate Research Fellowship Program, or GRFP is a program of the National Science Foundation which supports graduate students pursuing full-time research-based masters and doctoral degrees in NSF-supported fields: STEM, social sciences, STEM education, and a few special programs such as philosophy of science, law and economics, etc. (The awards do not support students pursuing professional degrees (e.g., MPA, MPH, or MSW). The fellowship provides an annual stipend of $37,000 plus tuition. If awarded, applicants must enroll in a graduate program in 2024 to accept (although it is possible to defer the first year of funding).
The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs Foundation is offering support to participate in an online course dedicated to help Cal Poly Humboldt students submit winning proposals to the NSF. The course includes 15 hours of asynchronous instruction, a weekly synchronous flipped classroom, one-on-one individual coaching, and feedback on drafts. In total, applicants will spend ~50 hours developing and writing their GRFP application through the course. Students can begin the course any time between mid-June and mid-August.
Currently enrolled graduate students are eligible only in 2023; graduate students who matriculate in 2023 can apply this year OR next year. Interested applicants can check their eligibility here. We strongly encourage rising seniors to apply because they are allowed to apply again as a graduate student.
Earlier this semester, Sponsored Programs Foundation hosted a panel discussion with current and previous GRFP fellows from Cal Poly Humboldt, where they discussed the application process and their current experiences (recording linked here). We’ve also recorded an informational presentation with program officers from the National Science Foundation (recording linked here).
