Fall 2020 HSU Teaching Excellence Symposium 12/3/2020
Making Teaching Visible recognizes the work that HSU educators regularly do to craft significant learning experiences. More often than not we work on great things that only our students experience. The Teaching Excellence Symposium makes that work visible so that it can be shared and celebrated.
Come see what your colleagues have to share!

Roundtable Discussion
Turning Challenges into Opportunities: Stimulating Engagement and Perseverance in High-Enrollment Online STEM Courses
Presented By: Kerry Byrne, ESM, and Kimberly White, Chemistry
Maintaining engagement in the online environment can be challenging, yet the transition to online instruction has also provided some opportunities for faculty to experiment with new strategies to promote engagement and perseverance within our diverse student body in STEM courses, especially those with high enrollments. Did you try something new that worked particularly well in your course(s) this semester? We encourage participants to share a practice that worked well for their students this semester. To stimulate discussion, the faciIitators will present several evidence-based strategies for engaging students and fostering perseverance in the online environment. Attendees are encouraged to learn about strategies that their colleagues have found to be successful and to consider how these tactics may be implemented in their own courses. The goal will be for all attendees to leave with additional student-focused strategies for improving the student experience in HSU classes.
