Service to Community - Making Connections through OLLI at HSU in 2019
Have you ever considered offering a class for the community through OLLI? Teaching for OLLI offers the opportunity to share your expertise and make direct connections with learners beyond the HSU campus. OLLI at HSU is a vibrant lifelong learning community with over 1300 members in our region. OLLI classes vary in length and presentation but usually consist of 4 to 12 hours of instruction without assessment or homework. Through the years I've found most faculty have a "favorite six hours" block of instruction. Those pockets of inspiration and passion make a perfect OLLI class!
OLLI members take classes to learn for learning's sake. And teaching an OLLI class offers a terrific venue to share new research, promote a recent book or article or make connections with community members who may be interested in participating in future focus groups or department events. OLLI members are aged 50 and better and bring a wide variety of experience and interest to every class. HSU faculty who have taught an OLLI class tend to return to teach for OLLI again. It is fun to have eager learners to recharge your favorite lessons. OLLI at HSU collects course fees and shares all revenue 50/50 with individual course instructors.
We are collecting course proposals for Spring 2019 now through January 8th. If you are interested in offering a course sometime between March and May, please complete a course proposal form. If you have questions or ideas for a course you might like to offer to the OLLI community during the summer or next fall, please contact Sheila Rocker Heppe. (srh@humboldt.edu / x3743). Kim Laney, OLLI Coordinator and I will be happy to make your class a part of the next OLLI course selection process.
Thank you and Happy New Year,
Sheila Rocker Heppe
