Announcing New Emergency Management Coordinator

It is a pleasure to announce that Willie Bence has accepted the positon of Emergency Management Coordinator. Willie has previously served as a Disaster Program Manager with the American Red Cross out of Portland, Oregon. In that role, he lead disaster preparedness community outreach programs, lead teams of disaster response and recovery volunteers, and collaborated in disaster planning and training with community partners. Prior to that, he served with the Humboldt County Red Cross as a Disaster Preparedness and Response Coordinator working in a similar capacity. During his time with Red Cross, Willie has deployed to disasters across the United States, including SuperStorm Sandy in New York, flooding events in Florida, Illinois, and Colorado, and wildfires across the Pacific Northwest, working primarily as a liaison in Emergency Operation Centers.

Willie, a native of Humboldt County, is currently also working on his Master's degree in Disaster and Emergency Management from American Military University. He received his Bachelor's of Arts from University of California, Santa Barbara, in Black Studies.
