Director of Academic Resources Open Forum Tomorrow

Good afternoon!

Due to the power outage, some may not have received notice that the Open Forum for the third candidate for the position of Director of Academic Resources will take place tomorrow at 10:30 in Goodwin Forum.

Reminder: Campus to Open 1 p.m., Wed.; Classes Resume Thurs. Oct. 31

HSU has been informed that there is no longer a power shutdown for our area tonight or the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 30. 

Campus will reopen on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. Employees should report to work at that time.

Classes are now scheduled to resume Thursday, Oct. 31. 

This schedule will allow for an orderly reopening of facilities. It will also allow instructors time to prepare for classes and labs.

California State University Trustees to Begin Search for Next Chancellor

From the California State University Chancellor’s Office:

The California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees will begin the search for the university’s next chancellor to succeed Timothy P. White, who announced his intent to retire at the end of the 2019-20 academic year.

Under White’s tenure CSU expanded student access and success with enrollment and graduation rates reaching all-time highs.

California State University (CSU) Chancellor Timothy P. White today announced his plan to retire in 2020. White has served as CSU Chancellor since 2012 and led the university’s restoration and resurgence from Great Recession-era cuts to achieve unprecedented heights for student enrollment and graduation.

Laurel Drive at B Street Closure Effective 10/23-10/24/19

Beginning Wednesday October 23 at 4:00 pm, through Thursday October 24, 2019 at 5:00 pm, the seismic retrofit contractor will be paving the new parking stalls in front of Gist Hall on Laurel Drive.

Due to the nature of this work activity, Laurel Drive will need to be closed to vehicular traffic so that the paving operations can be completed safely.  Pedestrian flow on the northside of Laurel Drive as well as the new sidewalk in front of Gist Hall will all remain open through this period.

College Creek Soccer Field Closure

After consultation with Facilities Management, Risk Management, and Athletics, the College Creek Soccer Field will be closed October 24-25 for turf repairs.  Several areas have ongoing issues creating potential problems for teams to effectively utilize the facility.  Repairs will be completed by the end of Friday (10/25) and the field will reopen on October 26th.  All groups scheduled during the closure days have been notified and activities mitigated.

National First-Generation College Celebration & Invitation to Share Your Story

Dear Staff, Faculty, and Administrators:

The HSU TRIO programs invite you to help promote our campus celebration of the National First-Generation College Day on November 8th.  There are multiple ways you can participate, all of which are intended to acknowledge, support, and welcome our HSU community of first-generation students.*

HSU Fast Fact:  52% of currently enrolled HSU students are first-generation students, an increase of 11% over the past 10 years.

New Interim Executive Director for HSU's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI)

Dear HSU Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Edelmira Reynoso will serve as the Interim Executive Director for HSU's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI). Dr. Reynoso's appointment begins on October 18, 2019.  Dr. Reynoso joined the HSU community on August 6, 2018, as ODEI's Associate Director. 

Laurel Drive Sidewalk Work

Beginning Monday, October 21, 2019 continuing through Friday October 25, 2019, the sidewalk section just east of Brett Harte House will be closed, as well a small section of sidewalk near the B Street and Laurel Drive intersection. 

The seismic retrofit contractor will be working on completing these two remaining sections of sidewalk in preparation for final paving work in this area.  

All of the second floor Gist Hall entrances on the north side of the building will be open again starting on Monday (10/21/19) morning and throughout the week.

Retaining the Office of Independent Review Group

Campus Community, 

Humboldt State University takes the recent allegations by employees about University Police Chief Donn Peterson seriously.

As part of our response, the University has retained the OIR Group (Office of Independent Review) to investigate the allegations, complaints, and any related matters. OIR Group is led by some of the nation's leading experts on police practices and oversight. We’re looking forward to working with this established and well-respected law enforcement assessment firm.
