Farewell to Dr. Cheryl Johnson

Dear HSU Colleagues,

It is with mixed emotion that I write to inform you that Dr. Cheryl Johnson, Executive Director for the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) has accepted a position to become the new Dean of Equity and Student Support with Skyline College within the San Mateo Community College District. Cheryl's final day on campus will be October 11, 2019.

Open Enrollment – Final Reminder – All Changes/Enrollments Must Be Made By October 4 at 5pm

The CSU annual Open Enrollment period for 2020 will be September 9, 2019 through October 4, 2019. Open Enrollment is your annual opportunity to review and update your current benefits for the 2020 calendar year. You can enroll, change, or cancel CalPERS health, dental, vision plan or Flexcash, enroll for the first time or re-enroll in Dependent Care Reimbursement (DCRA), Health Care Reimbursement (HCRA) or voluntary benefit plans. The effective date for all changes/enrollments made during the Open Enrollment period will be January 1, 2020.

The Title IX office has moved to Human Resources, located at Siemens Hall, Room 212. Please visit the Human Resources front desk for assistance with any Title IX related matters. Either Title IX Coordinator Marcus Winder or one of the Title IX investigators will come to assist you. 

Information on Concerns Raised by UPD Employees

Earlier today, I learned of a vote of no confidence in the University’s Police Chief by members of the union within the University Police Department.

At HSU, we take seriously any concerns raised by University employees.  We will thoroughly investigate all of the allegations brought to our attention.

New Dates Added: Free Immigration Legal Services for HSU Students & Employees

Students & Colleagues: 

New dates have been added for Free Immigration Legal Services.  The opportunities to meet confidentially with an Immigration Law Expert has expanded through the use of ZOOM meetings. 

There are several dates throughout the semester when appointments are available (see attached) as well as an in-person DACA Renewal Clinic scheduled for December 7th.  If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call the EOP Reception at 707-826-4781.  ZOOM meeting connections and office support are provided.

Workshops About Supporting Students of Concern

Participants will learn about strategies and guidelines for working with students of concern and the resources available to assist you and the student. Our two sessions this semester are:

Soccer Field to Reopen on Saturday

With the soccer field off-line this week and the benefit of favorable weather, the Facilities Grounds crew was able to make significant progress on repairing the damage caused by last week’s flash flood.  Facilities Management, Risk Management, and Athletics have inspected the repairs and have approved reopening the field on Saturday, September 28.

Thank you for your patience while repairs were completed.  Facilities Management, Risk Management, and Athletics will continue to monitor the field and may need to make future scheduling adjustments. 

Laurel and B Street Closure Effective 9/30/19

Beginning Monday, September 30, continuing through Wednesday, October 9, 2019, the seismic retrofit contractor will be working on crosswalk improvements for the western lanes of Laurel Drive at the top of B Street.  Due to the nature of this work activity, the west portion of the intersection will need to be closed to vehicular traffic so that the existing pavement and structural sections can be demolished and rebuilt safely.  Pedestrian flow traveling north up B Street will be routed over toward Jenkins Hall to use the eastern crosswalk, and can then can continue north through campus, or
