At Humboldt State University, we recognize the accomplishments of our outstanding students, staff, and faculty.  Here are this year’s recipients of the Distinguished Faculty and McCrone awards. Congratulations to this year’s winners!

Distinguished faculty award recipients are nominated by their colleagues or students.  Nominations that meet eligibility criteria specified for the award are then reviewed by a committee of previous award winners.

Jenn Capps Named Provost at Humboldt State University

Jenn Capps has been appointed the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Humboldt State University. She begins her new role on Aug. 1. 

Impact of COVID on Communities of Color

The HSU community has rallied and supported one another during the challenges of recent months. Now, as we head into the summer break, it is important to continue with that and also to be aware of the disparate impact of the pandemic, which has amplified a number of equity issues and raised concerns about bias faced by people of color and people with other marginalized identities and their intersections. 

Release of Federal Title IX Rules

In November 2018, the U.S. Department of Education issued a proposal to amend the regulations implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The proposed regulations focused on sexual harassment (including sexual assault) and were intended to replace prior guidance issued by the Federal Government in the last several years.

Space Allocation Process for Spring 2020 Suspended

On March 9, 2020, the submission period for the Spring 2020 call for space requests closed with 14 new space requests, in addition to the 9 space requests still in review from previous request periods. Due to unforeseen events campus-wide, including COVID-19, the University Space and Facilities Advisory Committee was unable to meet to discuss the next steps in the space request review process in the month of March.

COVID-19 Related Leave Options

In response to COVID-19, multiple leave options have been implemented to help employees who are affected by the pandemic. Each provision differs slightly, but the intent of the programs are the same: to provide paid leave to employees for COVID-19 related reasons. The following is a summary of leave options available, and a chart comparing details of each leave program can be found here
