Harassment Prevention and Mandatory Training Changes

This year the California State Legislature passed Senate Bill 778 which was signed by Gov. Newsom on August 30, 2019. The primary changes for mandatory harassment training impacting the CSU’s current offerings are twofold:

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service - 'A Day On Not A Day Off' January 20,2020


Join us for a collaborative experience  with community partners on beautification projects. Students, Faculty and Staff are encouraged and welcome to participate.
Check in will begin at 8:00 a.m. on January 20, 2020 in the SBS (Student Business Services) Lobby.

We will provide breakfast snacks, a free t-shirt, and transportation to the service site at 8:30am. We will return to HSU at noon and eat lunch and hear a short program honoring Martin Luther King.

Action Required: HSU Injury and Illness Prevention Program Questionnaire Complete by 12/13/19

Risk Management and Safety Services(RM&SS) has been endeavoring, this semester, to mitigate deficiencies related to the HSU Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) that were identified by the CSU Chancellor’s Office Audit and Advisory Services. The audit documented a number of areas where departmental IIPP’s were either deficient or absent altogether, most of which must be corrected by the end of the semester, no later than 12/18/19. 

REMINDER: URPC Campus Budget Meeting Tomorrow from 11:30 - 1:30 in Goodwin Forum

The URPC is working to develop a three-year balanced budget plan and will be hosting the second of two campus budget meetings tomorrow (12/3), from 11:30 - 1:30 in Goodwin Forum, to support the development of this budget recommendation.  The meeting format will be world cafe style.

Dean Bond-Maupin Named Interim Provost

Lisa Bond-Maupin, who serves as HSU’s Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, has been appointed Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

She will take the new role effective January 2, 2020, following the departure of Alex Enyedi, who was recently named President of SUNY Plattsburgh. His appointment is effective Jan. 21, 2020.

Our annual campus holiday celebration will be held on Monday, December 16, at 4:00 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room. More information to follow.

Dear HSU Community,

On Thursday, November 21st the latest edition of The Lumberjack was circulated with an insert of a parody version called The Dumberjack. The editors of The Dumberjack, with the support of their professor, made a decision to include on the cover a photo of a sign found on campus with a sexist “riddle.” The words on the sign are derogatory and reproduce a culture of gender-based discrimination.
