Farewell to Lisa Castellino

Dr. Lisa Castellino, Humboldt State’s Associate Vice President for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE), has taken a new position at West Virginia University (WVU). Beginning in August, Dr. Castellino will serve as the inaugural Associate Vice President of Institutional Data and Analytics at WVU.

Approvals and Payroll Forms for New Student Employees

The process of hiring new student employees for Fall 2020 has been streamlined. All new student employee hirings previously required additional Vice President approval for both budgetary and COVID-19 campus population oversight. Approval from Vice Presidents is no longer necessary and new student hiring may proceed without this additional step. Departments should post open student positions on HSU Handshake.

Leadership Transition in Administration & Finance

Doug Dawes, who has honorably served Humboldt State University since 2017 as the Vice President for Administration & Finance, has stepped down from his appointment. 

Mr. Dawes has been active in the community and spearheaded several initiatives during his time at HSU, including the Trinity Annex project and the Small Business Development Center relocation to Eureka. 

HSU Budget Update

Today the California State University distributed a memo with a systemwide perspective on this year’s budget as well as the expected budget challenges in coming years. CSU Budget Memo

Humboldt State University has undertaken significant planning for budget reductions. In recent months, this has included preparing for the anticipated impact of the pandemic on state funding and enrollment.

I write today to emphasize the seriousness of the California State University’s budget situation and, in broad strokes, outline a multiyear plan that will allow us to strategically navigate these uncertain and challenging times.

New Guidelines for Employees Vulnerable to COVID-19 and Special Leave Options

Due to new guidelines from the California State University system and the Centers for Disease Control, Humboldt State University has developed new guidelines on returning to work on campus for employees who are 65+ years old or who have underlying medical conditions that make them vulnerable to COVID-19. There are also multiple CSU and federal leave options for certain employees impacted by the pandemic.

Extension of Early Exit Program Application Deadline

Employees now have until July 31, 2020 to submit their application for the Early Exit Program. Read more about the Early Exit program.

As we are finalizing plans to prepare for our students and operations this fall, I am pleased to share some structural changes within the Dean of Students units. 
Some of the ideas for the changes were initiated by students, others were a necessary response to budgetary constraints.
