HSU LEADS CSU IN ALUMNI GIVING

Once again Humboldt State University leads the entire CSU in the percent of alumni who made a charitable contribution last year.  Nearly 8% of HSU alumni made a gift during the year contributing a total of almost $1.0 million.  Hats off to each of you for your part and special thanks to our generous and committed alumni.

Advancement Holiday Potluck - Dec. 19

To celebrate anothe successful year, University Advancement is holding a potluck and optional gift exchange on December 19.

Please join us in Nelson Hall East at noon to celebrate. If you'd like to participate in the gift exchange, bring a wrapped gift costing no more than $13.

We'll also be trying to match baby photos to their grown up faces, so please bring a baby photo for some nostalgic good times.

 

Avoiding Unconscious Bias in the Hiring Process

Research repeatedly demonstrates the prevalence of unconscious bias in daily life and organizational processes. In fact, studies surface every year that illustrate the effects of gender and racial bias in all types of recruitment situations, for positions at all levels, and across all types of businesses, organizations, and institutions.

Outreach Connection for Sept. 16

Hey all, just wanted to share Admissions' Outreach Connection with you. Each recruiter gives a quick update of where they've been traveling and highlights. We're expanding our Alumni Ambassador program and there are awesome alum volunteers going out there and working with Admissions to represent us.

Welcome our new staff members - Monday Aug. 26: 9 a.m.

We are welcoming three new and one returning staff members to the Advancement Office over the next couple of weeks. I'd like to invite you to join us and get acquainted on Monday, August 26 at 9:00. Maria Forest started this week. She's working with Travis on our Phone Jacks program and freeing up Wes so that he can focus on building the mid level pool program. Bobbi Larson will be working on special events with Mary Kay. Rachel Fusi will work front desk in Siemens hall. And Monica Topping returns to us to take a position with KHSU.

TODAY! Centennial Human 100 Aerial Photo & Welcome Home Block Party

Participate in the Centennial Human 100 Aerial Fly Over Photo and be a part of history! The aerial view photo takes place at 3pm on Friday, August 30th on the Events Field. COME EARLY! FREE Centennial t-shirts for the first 800 attendees! After the photo, stay and join fellow students, staff, faculty and administrators for the 3rd annual Welcome Home to Humboldt Block Party. There will be live music and food, so come ready to eat, dance and celebrate the end of the first week of classes.

Coming September 3: Customer Service Training

The first part of the Customer Service in Higher Education training program will be released in early September and we encourage your participation. You will receive an email announcement on September 3 from a company called SkillSoft with instructions on how to participate in the training. We invite you to show your support for our students and all our customers by joining in this important training initiative. Other activities, including online and in-person forums, where you can continue your learning and begin discussions and share ideas are also in the works.

Humboldt State’s 100th Birthday Festival, Aug 24. on the Arcata Plaza

Take a walk back in time at HSU's big Centennial kick-off party on Saturday, August 24 from 4-7pm on the Arcata Plaza. Bring the family and be a part of the start of a yearlong celebration. The Humboldt State 100th Birthday Festival features a range of entertainment for the whole family. Enjoy free birthday cookies from Ramone’s bakery, explore old time artisan demos, snap a photo in the photo booth, revel at the antics of Leapin’ Louie and Shea Freelove, and dance to all-day music with the Humboldt Folklife Society, while the Arcata Fire Department gives fire truck rides to kids.
